Matt Doval & May Vang – TangoMind

TangoMind is an Argentine tango school headed by Matt Doval and assisted by May Vang, based in Spokane, Washington. Together, they share a deep commitment to tango as an improvised social dance and as a powerful practice for connection, creativity, and well-being.

Matt’s tango journey began in 2011, when his very first encounter with the dance sparked a lasting passion for Argentine tango. Over the next seven years, he traveled extensively across the US and Canada, attending festivals and encuentros, studying in countless group and private lessons, and immersing himself in the social dance community. In 2018, he began teaching in Spokane, focusing on making tango accessible, musical, and enjoyable for dancers of all levels.

May first explored tango before the pandemic, then fully embraced it in 2022. Like Matt, she committed herself to learning through travel, festivals, and work with a wide range of instructors in both group and private settings. She quickly developed into a skilled social dancer and a thoughtful, capable teaching partner. In 2023, Matt and May officially partnered as co-instructors and have been teaching together ever since.

In their classes, they emphasize partner connection, clear communication, musicality, and emotional presence, while fostering a warm, welcoming community on and off the dance floor.

Matt and May teach weekly Wednesday evening social Argentine tango classes at the Sinto Activity Center in Spokane and have recently begun to explore performance tango as an extension of their social dance work.

If you’re curious about tango or looking to deepen your dance, you’re warmly invited to drop in to a class. Bring a friend or come alone and experience TangoMind for yourself.
